Is Money still Important?

After coming home from School, little Jacque played with his coin. It was the most precious coin he had ever had, because he had won it by guessing mathematic riddle successfully from his teacher. He tapped the coin on the kitchen table and tried to make the coin spinning around. The coin had successfully been spin by him and he was so happy. But, little Jacque didn’t see that there was a hole on the floorboards. The coin had dropped into the hole and little Jacque tried to reach it out. He didn’t succeed and started to cry.

His father, Marco, came to see him crying on the floor. He asked little Jacque why he was crying like that. Little Jacque answered, “My coin had dropped and I couldn’t get it back, Pap… Hu … Hu… Hu…”

“Don’t worry, darling. Money isn’t important… Love is the most important thing…” said his father while hugging him tightly. After that, he stopped to cry and started to play with his monopoly game.

A week later, Marco attended a horse race championship. He had bought the lottery ticket before and waited for the final result. He hoped for his Number 1-horse to win. Finally, the result shown the horse with number 1 on its back had won the competition.

“Yes! I’ve won!” shouted Marco excitedly.

He was very happy because he had got the lottery money. At least he got £55 inside an envelope. He brought it home and told his wife to hold a dinner to celebrate his win.

In the night when Marco and his wife had talked with his colleagues after dinner, little Jacque found an envelope on the Marco’s working table. He began to tear up the envelope like it was the money toy in his monopoly game.

Then, Marco came to his working room to get his card names and found little Jacque with tearing papers. He asked the little Jacque, “What are you tearing up, darling?”

Little Jacque answered calmly, “Your envelope with the money inside, Pap…”

Marco got shocked with his face turning to red, “What?! How could you…”

Little Jacque said without any guilty, “But you said money isn’t important, is it Pap?” (HS)
